Windows 8 Hyper-V 3 Step by step
Windows 8 developer preview have been out for some time now , and with it comes the new HyperV , I know it’s a bit early to start testing it but I could not wait specially with all of the new features , we are not talking about the feature such as hardware limits I am talking about totally new features that will change the game for a lot of us.
First Installing hyperV
note that the server manager looks totally different
go to mange and select add roles ( or you can select it directly from the dashboard )
the Scenario based is limited to RDS scenarios for now but i think there will be more
yes we want the local server
select HyperV ( note that it has new roles and features )
yes we need to install HyperV
select restart automatically
and we done now press start
the start menu looks totally different Right
Now lets create Vm
Give it a name
Now the wizard have option to enable Dynamic memory – the memory here will be the startup memory still the DM will be 512-6…… so if your Guest don’t need it will give it back which kind of neat
we will connect the network later
HyperV 3 introduce a new type of disks a vhdx
This is a window from new HD wizard
Back to creating a VM
NEXT STEP installing the os inside the vm
When I was copying the iso file , the new copy look much cooler right
don’t forget to install the NEW Integration services
Now lets give a look to the new settings
This will allow us to add to the vms fiber adapter and map it to the parent (well I don’t have Fiber card in my test servers but you will get the idea )
Next we add storage pool ( this is just a locations )
Now lets create some networks
Incase you did not know SR-IOV please give a look to this video
now we create a pool for the network
One of the first things you notice is the long awaited fiber adapter now we can add it to the Vms
and we can map it to the physical cards
The dynamic memory is almost the same
also a great feature Now you can mange each network card bandwidth
the DHCP guard and the router Guard both stops the DHCP or the router packets from passing from the VMs
the Most important feature of all the replication
Http is good for now (specially that is a Special certificate is required not just server authentication )
yes please let us configure the remote server
and the remote server config opens ( you know this saddens my a bit how easy things become, AHHHHHHHHHHHH the good old days of NT
)
choose the VHD
the Auto snaps to be created between each replication
yes we want to start right away
and the replication starts
after the replication finishes we now have a new menu
- planned failover
- pause replication
- Health
- remove replication
the same info we can get through the PowerShell but I thing this looks good
the failover the VM MUST be off
One nice feature also is the move feature
First we need to enable on the host the migration feature
R click and move
now we have three option
- move to shared storage
- move to another host
- move storage
specify the target DNS name
select what you want to move
and the Vm is moved ![]()
shiva
Thanks a lot for your reply.
